Horace Snyder, Brother of Local Woman, Succumbs

Horace N. Snyder, 87, of Pelion, SC, formerly of Franklin Forks, PA, died on Saturday, February 24, 2001 at the Lexington Medical Center Extended Care in South Carolina. Born August 5, 1913 in Liberty Township, PA, he was the son of the late Evan N. Snyder and Rena I. (Caswell) Snyder DePue. He was married to Lucille (Greninger) Snyder. His first wife, Josephine, died in 1984.

He was a salesperson most of his life. He retired from DHIA as a milk tester and supervisor for the Susquehanna County region. He previously sold bakery goods and cleaning supplies. Additionally, he was a missionary in Bolivia with New Tribes Mission for numerous years. He was a member of the Calvary Baptist Church in Lexington, SC and a member and deacon at Stanfordville Baptist Church.

In addition to his wife, Lucille, he is survived by daughters and sons-in-law, Joy and Fred Luce of Cape Coral, FL, Faith and Conrad Parvin of Wilder, ID, Grace and Edward Harper of Pelion, SC, Hope and Dr. James Cummins of New Wilmington, Alethia Brutcher of Baldwinsville, NY; sons and daughters-in-law, Joseph and Elna Snyder of San Lorenzo, Bolivia, John and Marlene Snyder of Kenai, AK, Rev. Jedidiah and Elizabeth Snyder of Lexington, MA, Kirk and Martha Snyder of Conneaut, OH; sisters and brothers-in-law, Elaine and Clark Berg of Snake Creek, Miriam B. and Clem Bartlett of Grimsby, ON, Canada, Esther E. and Richard Camp of Laceyville; brothers and sisters-in-law, David and Esther DePue of Salts Springs, Samuel and Esther Lou DePue of Dunedin, FL, Paul and Elynor DePue of Homer, NY, John and Phoebe DePue, Pottstown, Stephen P. and Dorothy DePue of Lawsville; 23 grandchildren; 26 great-grandchildren; two stepchildren; nine step-grandchildren; six step-great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews.

A daughter, Delight Snyder, and sisters, Ruth P. Rothberg and Wilma Snyder, who died on Friday, predeceased him.

Services will be held at 10:30 a.m., Thursday (today), March 1 at the Bridgewater Baptist Church, Spruce and Church Streets, Montrose. The family received friends at the Bartron Funeral Home, Inc., 74 Church St., Montrose on Wednesday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m.

The family suggests, if desired, memorial contributions be made to the New Tribes Mission, for the Joseph Snyder Church, 1000 East First St., Sanford, FL 32771.

He was married to Adah (Alice) Josephine SUMMERS (Twin) (daughter of Rueben Levi SUMMERS and Adah Pearl TINGLEY) on 25 Mar 1937 in Montrose, Susquahanna Co., PA. Adah (Alice) Josephine SUMMERS (Twin) was born on 21 Oct 1908 in New Milford, Susquehanna Co., PA. She died on 12 Oct 1984 in Dimock Twp, Susquahanna Co., PA. She was buried in Brookside Cem., Franklin Forks, Susquahanna Co., PA. Horace Newell SNYDER and Adah (Alice) Josephine SUMMERS (Twin) had the following children:
