23. Isaac FINCH was
born about 1696 in Connecticut. He was christened on 13 Sep 1696 in Christ Church,
Fairfield, CT. He died on 18 Apr 1749 in Goshen, Orange Cty., NY. Isaac Finch
A list of actual inhabitants west of the Highlands (in present day Orange County,
NY) was made before the summer of 1715, named thirty settlers. "Abraham
Finch of Stamford, Connecticut, was conveyed land by John Everett and Samuel
Clowes on 31 July 1714 (R&C 19). He is probably Abraham Finch born 5 July
1665 at Stamford, son of Isaac Finch of that town. He married Martha Couch,
daughter of Simon Couch of Fairfield, Connecticut. He probably died in 1716.
One of his children, Isaac, was baptised in Stamford 13 Sep 1696; another son,
Solomon, was born about 1700 (Donald Lines Jacobus, History and Genealogy of
the Families of Old Fairfield 1:204; Kenneth E. Marshall, Finch Family Association
Bulletin 14:83)." Also "Isaac Finch settled on 100 acres at Wawayanda.
Monhagen Creek ran through his property, where he built the first flour- and
saw-mill in the settlement (R&C 678). He died in 1748 or 1749 (Kenneth E.

17 Apr 1718 - Martha Finch, widow and relict of Abraham Finch, late of Goshen,
deceased, who died intestate, and Isaac Finch, eldest son and heir of Abraham
convey to John Everett and Samuel Clowes for 40 pounds, half of lot 1, (The other
half belonging to said Everett and Clowes), and also a certain piece of undivided
land in Goshen which does belong to a half share right in said township. Martha
made her mark and Isaac signed.
21 Apr 1718 - Indenture between Isaac Finch eldest son and heir of Abraham Finch,
late of Goshen, deceased, of one part and Solomon Finch, younger brother of said
Isaac, of the other part relative to land in Goshen.
1721 - Goshen settled before that date. First settlers included Isaac Finch.
27 Jul 1721 - A deed setting aside land for location of a blacksmith shop signed
by Isaac Finch, Samuel Seeley and others.
27 Apr 1722 - Deed for a parsonage within the precincts of Goshen signed by Isaac
Finch and others.
21 Apr 1724 - Isaac Finch, eldest son and heir of Abraham Finch, yeoman, deceased,
late of Goshen, conveys to Solomon, younger brother of Isaac.
1 Oct 1724 - Deed made to his father, Abraham Finch, deceased, dated 1 Jul 1714,
recorded by Isaac Finch.
24 Aug 1747 - Isaac Finch of Goshen to "My loving uncle Benjamin Finch,
living in Borth Castel ... I being heir at law to my grandfather Isaac Finch,
deceased, convey all rights ..."
Will of Isaac Finch dated 15 June 1748; probated 18 April 1749:
"I, Isaac Finch, of Goshen, in Orange Co., N.Y., leave to my wife all debts
due me and she is to pay all debts I owe, and she is to have the use of the best
room in the house where I now dwell; and all household goods and a horse, and
all live stock except three cows and seven sheep, and she shall have the use
of the southeast half of my homestead and one half of the profits of my gristmill
and sawmill and farm, all of which are to remain in her hands until my son Solomon
is of age and after that the other half is for him; if she marries she is to
have 12 pounds out of the household goods; after her death the personal property
and the stock are to be divided between my sons Abraham, John and Nathaniel and
my daughter Ruth. I leave to my son Solomon one half of homestead where I now
live, taken square across on the southeast and with appurtenances and one half
of the grist mill and saw mill and stream and roads to and from the mills and
one half its utensils, also my small gun and horse.
"I leave to my son Samuel, my right to the mine tract which I purchased
from Abijaw Sands, lying at Mount Eve.
"I leave to my daughter Ruth, 40 shillings and a cow, besides the household
stuff already called here.
"I leave to my daughter Elizabeth, a horse and some sheep and a 10 gallon
pot when her mother can spare it.
"I leave to my sons Abraham and Daniel all my rights of land which I have
by my father, Abraham Finch, and my grandfather Isaac Finch, in the bounds of
Stamford in New England and above the Eight Mile line in the tract called 8 mile
and 4 mile.
"I leave to my three sons, me three horses running at Pocheck.
"I leave to my son Isaac, the northwest half of my homestead and one half
of my mills and my long gun and I make him executor and trustee for my wife."
