bullet Reuben BIGGS(110) was born on 20 Oct 1775 in Prob. Martin Co., NC. He died about 1858 in Prob. Gibson Co., TN. Reuben moved from Martin County to Beaufort County, North Carolina, by 1800. He attended Tranter's Creek Baptist Church in Beaufort County. His family's migration to Tennessee in 1818 is described in the "History of Tennessee and Tennesseans" by Hale & Merritt, Vol. 8, Chicago, 1913, page 2465:

"The journey was accomplished overland with teams and wagons, and it was seven weeks between the start and the arrival in Tennessee. The shelter and home of hte family throughtout this time being in the wagons and under the open sky by the roadside. They first stopped at Dover, in Stewart County, where (Reuben) remained for five or six years, then came to Gibson County, buying land three miles northwest of Trenton, which continued to be the home of (Reuben) until late in life, after which he made his home with his son Zack. He died at the age of 83. The maiden name of his first wife was Watson, who was the mother of all his children, his sons being named James, Kader, Luke, Amariah, Nehemiah, Zack and William."

The 1820 Stewart County census shows in Reuben's household:

1 male under 10, 2 males 10-16, 2 males 16-18, 1 male 16-26, 1 male 26-45, 1 female 10-16, 2 females 16-26, 1 female 45 or above.

Presumably the girls are Reuben's daughters; their names are not known. The girl 10-16 could be Drucilla Biggs, b abt 1805, who married Timothy Anderson. If Drucilla was the daughter of Reuben and Sally Biggs and the stepdaughter of Reuben's second wife, Matilda, this could account for her naming one of her sons Reuben, her first daughter Sally, and another daughter Alzada Matilda.

CENSUS: 1830 Gibson Co., TN shows 1 male age under 5, 1 male 5 - 10, 1 male 20 - 30; 2 females under 5, 1 female 20 - 30. Parents: Kedar BIGGS and Hannah DAVIS.

Sometime between 1880 and 1900, Reuben became a physician. When or where we have not been able to determine. In those days there was no state licensing authority in the state of Arkansas. He appeared on the census in 1900 in Cache Township, Greene County, AR. Parents: Matthew BIGGS and Pauline SHADDOCK.
